Meet the Oral Surgeons

William S. Blood received his Bachelor of Science Degree in biology from Allegheny College in Pennsylvania. He graduated with honors from Case Western Reserve University earning his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree. He then entered and completed his Residency in Oral Maxillofacial Surgery at Case Western Reserve University. Dr. Blood continued his training in oral & maxillofacial surgery at Leed’s General Infirmary / St. James University Hospital in Yorkshire U.K. He also did a cleft lip and palate fellowship in Toluca, Mexico. He then went on to finish his Doctor of Medicine Degree at Case Western Reserve University and his General Surgery Internship at University Hospitals of Cleveland. Dr. Blood joined the private practice at North Coast Jaw & Implant Center with Dr. Blakemore in 1991.

Maintaining active involvement in all levels of dentistry, Dr. Blood is on the staff at Fairview Hospital, St. John West Shore Hospital, University Hosptials and The Surgery Center. He is also an Associate Clinical Professor at Case Western Reserve University Dental School. In conjuction with Dr. Blakemore, Dr. Blood was instrumental in beginning the Implant Study Club for their region.

Dr. Blood is board certified by the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons. To stay current in his field, Dr. Blood attends several continuing education courses yearly on dental implants and oral surgery. Dr. Blood provides a broad range of oral and maxillofacial surgical services with emphasis on dental implants, bone grafting, dento-alveolar surgery, wisdom teeth removal, general anesthesia, intravenous sedation, facial trauma and pathology. He finds especially rewarding the orthognathic and reconstructive jaw surgery practice he has developed in this area.

Dr. Blood grew up in Titusville, Pennsylvania, where he is remembered in the Titusville Athletic Hall of Fame. He currently lives in Westlake with his wife, Michelle, and their six children. In his free time, Dr. Blood enjoys playing golf and keeping physically fit. Dr. Blood truly loves his profession and his involvement with organized Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He is able to provide necessary services to patients to improve their quality of life and is dedicated to providing the highest quality of patient services in a caring environment.

 


 

Raymond P. Plona is the most recent surgeon to join our North Coast Jaw & Implant Center family.  He was raised in Olmsted Falls, OH and graduated with honors from St. Ignatius High School in Cleveland, OH.  Dr. Plona earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Baldwin Wallace College in Berea, OH where he majored in Biology and minored in Chemistry.  After graduation, he entered Case Western Reserve University earning his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree.  His many achievements include:

Dr. Plona attended the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine from 2006-2012.  He earned his Doctor of Medicine in 2010, and then did his Internship in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, his Internship in General Surgery and his Residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.  He completed his position at the Pittsburgh Medical Center as Chief OMFS Resident in June, 2012.

Dr. Plona is board certified by the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons. He practices the full scope of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery including dental implant placement, third molar removal, extraction of teeth, and other dentoalveolar surgery and pre-prosthetic surgery.  Additionally, he performs orthognathic surgery, manages facial fractures, trauma, oral pathology and jaw reconstruction.  He will take on the role of Associate Clinical Professor at Case Western School of Dentistry, which involves the instruction of oral surgeons in all the aspects of the OMFS discipline.

Along with being credentialed at University Hospitals of Cleveland, Dr. Plona also maintains active status at St. John Medical Center, Fairview Hospital and The Surgery Center. He is involved in the Implant Study Club started by Dr. Blakemore and Dr. Blood, and is affiliated with the American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS), the American Dental Society (ADA), the Ohio Dental Society (ODA), the Greater Cleveland Dental Society (GCDS), The Lorain County Dental Society (LCDS), and the Westshore Study Club.

Dr. Plona and his wife, Sarah, are excited about returning to this area and to be near their extended families in Ohio. His wife, Sarah, is a graduate of Olmsted Falls High School and Baldwin-Wallace College, earning her degree in Early Childhood Education. She is now busy raising their three lovely children, Benjamin, Jonathan and Annie. Dr. Plona spends his free time enjoying his family, golfing, cooking, running and weight training.
